Summary
Phileas Fogg, a wealthy and precise Englishman, bets that he can travel around the world in 80 days. He sets off immediately from London with his French servant, Passepartout, starting with Paris and Italy, then sailing to India on the Mongolia.
In India, they face cultural challenges and meet Aouda, a young woman threatened by the suttee ritual, whom they rescue with the help of Sir Francis Cromarty. Inspector Fix, convinced that Fogg is a bank robber, secretly follows them throughout their journey.
They encounter storms and obstacles at sea and must adapt constantly, including buying a small ship to reach connecting vessels like the General Grant. Passepartout shows courage and heroism, especially during dangerous incidents in America, such as a Sioux attack and a collapsing bridge.
Despite delays and legal troubles, Fogg uses his intelligence, money, and determination to navigate challenges and reach England. Upon arriving in London, he is briefly arrested but released. Thanks to Passepartout noticing the extra day gained by traveling east, Fogg reaches the Reform Club on time, wins the bet, and regains his money.
The story concludes with Fogg marrying Aouda, showing that true happiness comes from love, loyalty, and human relationships rather than money. The novel celebrates courage, intelligence, patience, and the human spirit in overcoming natural, cultural, and temporal obstacles.
